'Tis the season to be jolly, but with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, keeping your home clean and tidy can feel like a daunting task. Fear not, fellow busy moms (and/or dads)!


I've put together a Christmas cleaning checklist for busy moms ánd dads. It will help you to tackle every nook and cranny of your home, ensuring it's sparkling and ready for the festive season ahead. Let's do this together!


To make sure you're not stressed out or exhausted come Christmas day: start early. Thank me later ;-)


The Ultimate Christmas Cleaning Checklist for Busy Moms (and Dads)

 

On a daily basis


  1. Remove dust/grime by wiping down:

  • countertops,

  • tables

  • kitchen appliances

  • sinks

  • toilets


2. Keep everything tidy by checking every room for clutter and putting everything into place.


3. Prevent a pile-up of laundry by doing at least one load every day, folding/ironing it immediately after drying, and putting it away.


 

Two weeks before guests arrive

Declutter, Organize and Deepclean


  1. Clear away clutter from common areas, such as the living room, kitchen, and entryway.

  2. Organize toys, books, and other items to create a tidy space.

  3. Clean out the refrigerator and pantry, discarding expired items and organizing shelves.

  4. Scrub down the oven, stovetop, and microwave.

  5. Clear away clutter from garden, porch or balcony


 

One week before guests arrive

Dusting and Wiping


  1. Dust all surfaces, including shelves, furniture, picture frames, and light fixtures.

  2. Launder curtains and washable upholstery to remove dust and odors.

 

Three days before guests arrive

Cleaning Windows and Mirrors


  1. Clean windows inside and out to let the holiday sunshine in.

  2. Wipe down mirrors with glass cleaner for a streak-free shine.

  3. Create a welcoming Christmassy atmosphere at your front door.

 

Two days before guests arrive

Vacuuming and Sweeping


  1. Vacuum carpets, rugs, and upholstery to remove dirt and debris.

  2. Sweep and mop hard floors, paying special attention to high-traffic areas.

  3. Clean and sanitize the bathrooms, including the toilet, sink, and bathtub/shower. 

 

Day before guests arrive

Freshening Up


  1. Change bedding and fluff pillows for a cozy atmosphere.

  2. Set out fresh towels in the bathrooms and stock up on toiletries for guests.

 

Day of Guests' Arrival


  1. Last check on bathrooms, sinks, toilets and countertops

  2. Light candles or plug in scented wax warmers for a warm and inviting ambiance.

  3. Place bowls of potpourri or essential oil diffusers around the house for a festive scent.

  4. If necessary: vacuum hallway, living room, kitchen and stairs.
